Letter, 1847 Sept. 10, Hillsboro[ugh, N.C.], to Mrs. Mary Curtis (Society Hill, S.C.)

Letter written to Mary Jane DeRosset Curtis, wife of the Moses Ahley Curtis (1808-1872), Episcopal priest, teacher, and noted mycologist; the author is presumably Robina Norwood, identified in the 1850 census as a 76-year-old resident of Orange County, N.C. Letter conveys the Norwood's apologies for not having seen Mrs. Curtis and her husband before they left Hillsborough, N.C., and expresses sorrow that they had lost "our Valuable Pastor." Other news concerns the health problems of Anna Norwood, who was suffering with neuralgia, and the bishop of the diocese, who had preached at Hillsborough and ordained a deacon the previous Sunday. Throughout the letter are references to Robina Norwood's own children and grandchildren and to members of the Mickle family.
